In an article entitled, “In Their Coastal Citadels, Democrats Argue Over What Went Wrong”, written by Reid J. Epstein and Janet Hook, and  published in the Wall Street Journal, it appears the obvious is still elusive to some.

The authors write, “This year, 67% of non-college-educated whites nationwide voted for Mr. Trump, according to exit polls.” Still relying on polls? Why? The inaccuracy of polls regarding  those who would vote for Trump is clear. Why would anyone trust exit polls when asking whether someone had voted for Trump? My point is: The percentage of those who voted for Trump was likely higher that what the exit polls indicated.

“The coalition needs to be broader”,  said Sen. Mark Warner, a Virginia Democrat. “The Democratic Party has a history that it’s been about working Americans. We cannot be a party of the East Coast, West Coast and metropolitan areas.” Not if your aim is to address the concerns of all Americans, it can’t. That’s for sure. And in general, the politically “red’ areas are equally important as the “blue” because they produce the physical products the “blue” areas consume. Republican, more rural enclaves have smaller populations than the  urban Democratic coastal and metropolitan areas. This is the reason for the electoral College.

“Al Gore and John Kerry, who each lost to Republican George W. Bush, were both seen as cerebral creatures of an economic and political elite”, says the article. I don’t know if that’s true, but if it is, that brings to bear a conversation not so much about elitism as it does about the Democrats’  and Republicans’ basic tenets. (Those who can… do. Those who can’t… teach). Republicans tend to live in a world of blue collar, hands-on, get it done yourself visions. Democrats, like the liberal collegiate communities, live in the world of theory. There is, of course, nothing wrong with  theory. Without it, we couldn’t have put men on the moon. Neither could we have done that without the workers at Grumman Aerospace who physically built the lunar excursion module and the Saturn V without the benefit of university sheepskins. One problem the Democrats historically fail to recognize  lies in the fact that human beings are not as dependable and able to be manipulated as literature and schematics. Human beings are more like the weather and cannot be micromanaged or programmed to behave the way some ideology chooses. Any attempt to do so ultimately ends in revolt. Or, in this case, an election “surprise”.

Quoting the article again, “The party-wide debate is reaching into Capitol Hill and the Democratic National Committee, provoking discord between liberal political activists and the pragmatists in elected office. Meanwhile, Mrs. Clinton’s popular-vote victory has left some top party officials believing they still hold the keys to the electoral promised land, if only they could find the right vehicle to take them there.” As always, the vehicle must be built. The builders hold the keys and made their vote resounding known.

Simply put: Clinton didn’t lose the election because Trump won. She lost it because Obama didn’t focus on America and America would have no more of it. So, no, Hillary, you and those of your mindset don’t get it. You don’t know what America wants, no matter how  arrogantly and stubbornly you insist you do. Period.

The question remains: Does Trump have a practical clue? I guess we’ll find out.
