SIGN: LEO
LEO is the intellectual sign of the LION. People born between July 23rd and August 22nd are said to be outgoing, charming, and creative. Most strikingly, they are also said to possess fiery personalities and tend toward the dramatic side. I mean really dramatic. God! Oh so dramatic! Be still, my wildly beating heart. William Jefferson Clinton (born on August 19th) is a Leo. So is Judge Lance Ito; but who cares?
NOTE: “Leo the Lion” was and is the mascot and logo of MGM Hollywood film fame and no stranger to drama and being fiery. Actually, there were several lions who assumed this stage name. Samuel Goldwyn ( born to a Jewish family in Warsaw, Poland in 1879 ), Marcus Lowe ( born in New York City a year after his Jewish parents emigrated from Poland ) and Louis B. Mayer ( born a Russian Jew in Belarus ) formed MGM Studios ( Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ) 1n 1924 and continued to use the “Leos” as the face of their company from prior film endeavors.
The first “Leo” was an Irish feline named “Slats”, (born in Dublin). He was used from 1917 to 1928 and later fought successfully to abolish The 18th Amendment (finally dying in 1936 of gout). Due to his slight, but noticeable brogue, his roar was never heard by the public. The second was “Jackie” who was the first on-screen “Leo” to roar. His credits ran from 1928 through 1956. An indomitable presence, he survived a plane crash and two train wrecks. He died in 1935 of chronic laryngitis. (You will note some overlapping dates as more than one lion was being used at a time and images of lions passed were used in newer films. Sadly, no residuals were offered at the time.) “Telly” was used from 1927-1932. He did 3 roars. “Coffee” 1932-1934, did 4 roars. “Tanner” 1934-1956, replaced “Telly'”and “Coffee”, but, strangely, “Tanner” was replaced, once, by archival footage of “Jackie” for “The Wizard of OZ” (1939) and was blacklisted for a short time in 1947 for having uttered several suspected communistic roars. He was quickly cleared after Walt Disney convinced him to issue an anti-semitic press release…or so I’m told. Big maned,”George” 1956-1958, replaced “Tanner” and “Jackie”. All the aforementioned lions and their likenesses were dismissed when it came to light that they had been claiming Hollywood was controlled by Jews. The last “Leo” was actually named “Leo”, so he didn’t even have to act. He could phone it in. He had a small mane in comparison to some of the others, but sired a bunch of cubs by a bunch of females . This true Hollywood cat died at the ripe old age of 23.
SUB-SIGN: FELIX
Felix is the intellectual/emotional sign of “TEFLON”. Veraciously “creative” individuals born on August 19th may display the Hollywood style “The rules don’t apply to me!” attitude and could have something (or someone) unexpected in their “bag of tricks”.
Fascinating! Next time I see the MGM lion, I will count the roars and note the production date.
BTW You will note that Clinton actually has 4 planets in Leo, making him a quadruple-Leo.
